Malaysia's Festivals and Celebrations

Assalamualaikum and good evening all my friends. For our information, there are many festivals and holidays observed in Malaysia. Religious and cultural festivals are a way of life in this country. With multi racial population, we can find at least one festival or celebration in any month. We will be able to see Malay, Chinese, Indian,Thai, Burmese and etc. But, today, I would like to emphasize the important Muslim holiday that is celebrated throughout the Muslim known as Hari Raya Puasa (Aidilfitri).
Aidilfitri is celebrate for the whole month of Syawal, but in Malaysia, only the first two days are observed as public holidays. It is common, however to see Muslims taking the first week off from work.
During Aidilfitri, those staying in cities and big towns will make their annual pilgrimage to their hometowns to be with parents, relatives and old friends. Thus, Kuala Lumpur gets relatively quiet during the festive season of Aidilfitri. The muslim community ushers in the first day of Aidilfitri by congregating at mosques for morning prayers. Everyone is usually decked out in his or her tradisional best to mark the special occasion. Men dress in Baju Melayu, while the women don the Baju Kurung, the quintessential Malay attire for females.
Traditional delicacies and local favourites like lemang (glutinous rice cooked in bamboo), ketupat (rice wrapped in coconut leaves), peanut sauce and rending ( dry spicy beef dish) are usually served.
Although the first three days are celebrated on a grand scale, many Muslims, especially those in the cities, hold open house celebrations thoughout the month, when friends and neighbours ot other races are invited to join in.
